Whale watching in Drake Bay

There are two season for whale watching in Drake Bay and each one lasts around four months. The best option or season to do the activity is from january to september, being the pic of this activity in august-september.
The whales come from the polar areas where they feed on four thousand pounds of fish or krill a day to gain weight to start their travel to tropical and subtropical waters to mate and give birth also. During this process they rarely feed.
The whales from the south are more friendly and their population is larger, since the are less affected by whale fishing.
Sometimes orcas come after them to feed on their babies, but finding the orcas during a whale watching expedition is not so usual.
There are many companies In Drake Bay, Uvita y Sierpe that go on tours with their boats to find the whales and observe them. Osa great Adventure does the activity, but make sure that you book in advance, since the boats are easily loaded because everybody wants to see them.
